5. Quintum Aenigma Scrabularum Latinum - - - Quidquid id est Zitat · Antworten

Today’s problem contains a parody on the well-known saying „Quidquid id est, timeo Danaos et dona ferentes“ of Laokoon in view of the Trojan Horse. However, of this parody there is one word missing, which may be placed at two different positions yielding 78 or 90 points, respectively.

For the very ambitious ones: there are two other possible bingos.

Again, I’d be very pleased if you let me know your solution(s).

The first version of this problem contained a small mistake: I forgot the word ET (at M6). Excuse me, please!

Die gesuchte Parodie lautet also:

QUIDQUID ID EST TIMEO VIRGINES ET OSCULUM DANTES.

-----------------------------

The solution of the fifth problem is OSCULUM which can be placed at 13G or 14D. Thus the parody reads

QUIDQUID ID EST TIMEO VIRGINES ET OSCULUM DANTES.

Heimi and Cricchino have informed me about this solution.

Bussinchen and Gerhard have found also the two following bingos:

1.
CONSULUM at L4 (ST is also a Latin word!). This is the genitive plural of consul.
2.
COLUIMUS at K2. This is a form of colo, colere, colui, cultum.

Gerhard has come across one more solution:

3.
MUSCULOM at C6. This is an old-fashioned form of the accusative of musculus.

Bussinchen has detected two extra solutions, which are not contained in every dictionary:

4.
CULMOSUM at C6: culmosus means „stalklike“, after culmus „stalk“.
5.
COLUMIUS at B8w or K1w. This is the comparative neuter of columis „unhurt, safe“, a word which is not well documented.

Congratulations to all!

Tomorrow you will see a new problem, this time related to Salzburg, my home town.
