Scrabble3D Club Quote · reply

hello,
i have changed some pieces of code from Scrabble3D to play in duplicate mode as player in a scrabble club.
some features :
dictionary in dawg format to speed up load.
bag display to take the letters.

Bussinchen, if you have some times to translate my news from my website : http://phipic.free.fr/news.php, it would be nice because my english is very poor and i am not sure to write here the good words to explain the features. On my website you can see some screenshots of this program.
Scotty, if you have some interests for the new features, i can send to you the source code of the changed parts. Be indulgent, because it'snt clean

Ami calmant, J.P

Of course! At least DAWG (+Quackle) is on my todo list. If you want to participate in coding we can discuss issues here (About the code, compilation and debugging).

Dear Jurassic Pork,

I have posted the German translation of your website in the German section of our forum:
Simultanmodus

In fact, "Simultanmodus" = "Scrabble3D Duplicate" has been on Scotty's Todo list for a long time --> Todo

Zitat von Jurassic Pork - http://phipic.free.fr/news.php
Scrabble3D Club

I use Caroline Word Graph as dawg ( http://www.pathcom.com/~vadco/cwg.html ) for my version. I am not sure that it is compatible with german alphabet and alphabet with a number of letters different than 26 . It is OK for the english and french language.

Concerning DAWG:

Since Scrabble3D is designed to be international, in my opinion the same system should be applicable for all languages, even those languages which use digraphs like spanish, catalan and so on, and languages which don't use the latin alphabet, like Russian and Farsi.

But is it really necessary to use DAWG for Scrabble3D Duplicate?

As I have understood, DAWG only accelerates loading of the dictionary. But fast loading of the dic is not a condition for playing Duplicate, is it?

You are right Bussingen, for playing Duplicate , the dictionary isn't necessary. Dawg accelerate the loading of dictionary and also the computer search of the best solutions.
For Scrabble3D designed for international it is safe to not use dawg :
1 ) for compatibility with all the languages and alphabets.
2 ) i am not sure that with dawg we could use the categories.
3 ) Scrabble3D without dawg is faster than a human

Looks pretty nice. I like the idea to integrate parts of game's configuration in the newgame-dialogue; the wizard is a very handy solution for complex inputs. But actually I don't know how to do that in network mode (which would be neccessary for simultaneous game play, IMHO). I'd suggest to discuss that issue and to implement all stuff in the next release. But I don't mind if you go ahead with your fork.

PS: Isn't the bag cleard from placed pieces in simultaneous play? It appears as if you move the pieces from the bag to the bank and then place them on the board.

I agree: It looks really fine - et c'est vachement intéressant!

I think it would be a very good idea to integrate Jurassic Pork's duplicate mode into Scotty's main program, because I know that in France Duplicate Scrabble is very popular. So I think that this new function would be highly appreciated especially by French speaking players.

See http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrabble#Classique_ou_duplicate and http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrabble_duplicate (in French),
or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrabble#Variations and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duplicate_Scrabble (in English)

Zitat von http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrabble#Variations
Duplicate Scrabble is a popular variant in French speaking countries. Every player has the same letters on the same board and the players must submit a paper slip at the end of the allotted time (usually 3 minutes) with the highest scoring word they have found. This is the format used for the French World Scrabble Championships, but it is also used in Romanian and Dutch. There is no limit to the number of players that can be involved in one game, and at Vichy in 1998 there were 1485 players, a record for French Scrabble tournaments.

See also Simultanmodus, especially post #1, #2, #3 and #4 (in German).

Which program did you use for making your demo on http://phipic.free.fr/e107_files/videos/Demo2.swf.html? Are you using maybe Camtasia Studio?

for example for the bag i have a unit ubag that looks like upieces. If you use my code, VERIFY that it is compatible with your functions ( for example the right click of mouse).
